Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a national charity which has been working with people experiencing debt and poverty in the UK since 1996. CAP exists to release the burden of debt and poverty which can so easily rob people of their joy, hope and opportunities. Since 2010 over 24,000 people have become debt free thanks to the support of CAP. 

As well as supporting people who are currently facing debt, CAP also offers a number of other initiatives including money advice, budgeting and life skills courses. You can find our more about the work of Christians Against Poverty by clicking here. All of CAP’s work is delivered through local churches and at Jubilee we began partnering with CAP back in 2023. 

There are two main projects which our church runs in conjunction with Christians Against Poverty. 

CAP Life Skills is an 8 week course that will gives people the confidence and decision-making skills needed to live on a low income. This course covers practical money saving techniques, such as cooking on a budget and making money go further. This course is ideal for helping people not only stay on top of household bills, but also to grow in self-confidence and improve relationships. 

Our life skills is ran in a relaxing environment through a team of passionate and dedicated volunteers. Life skills is s great way of building community and has been a popular course across the country. We usually run 3 life skills courses a year between Stockton and Middlesbrough.

In April 2024 we are delighted to be opening a Debt Centre in partnership with The Hope Foundation in central Middlesbrough. CAP’s debt help service offers free, professional debt counselling across the UK, through local churches. Our unique face-to-face visit model means those who work with us receive a bespoke service that includes emotional and practical support through our local church community in Jubilee.

The Debt Centre is our way of directly supporting those who are trapped in debt and gives us an opportunity to work with them to overcome the burden of debt whilst also providing personal support and friendship through our dedicated befrienders who are all members of Jubilee.
